East Church

An update from Ruth Anderson, East Church Norwich - Sports Factory Base

I work mainly in schools and in a variety of churches and community settings.

Throughout the week I run lunch clubs, PE lessons and after school clubs and interact with a variety of children ages ranging from reception -year 6. Through running fun sports games I get to know the children well with the hope that through these lunch clubs they would want to come along to our legacy camps and hear about our faith!

I also run a weekly exercise class in a women’s refuge where I provide a Pilates session in their accommodation, giving them exercises and time to be still in a relaxing and safe environment. A good news story - Last week I was able to have a great conversation with one of the ladies that came along who shared her story and I was able to offer to pray for her, which I was super encouraged about!

Every Friday I run a parent / carer baby and toddler exercise session in St Thomas church hall where we have soft play available and exercise mats ready to run a fun-filled session catered for both parent and child, at the end I share a short reflection around God's character and His love, finishing off the session by praying!

A prayer request:

I’d love to have more opportunities to share my faith in the refuge and have God's boldness to pray with the ladies that come along to the sessions!

Prayer for our upcoming legacy sports clubs happening in May and August that those that come from our lunch clubs will come along to our legacy camps and hear about Jesus and His great love!

This month we launched our summer of sport programme in Norwich running on Thursday evenings through May, June and July. Everyone who comes along is hearing testimony and stories from the bible through the video series Ruth has created for Scripture Union. We are also finishing our programme with a quiz at the end of July where we will share the Gospel message. We are asking our church congregation to choose a sport on the programme that they play or would like to try and to come along with a non-christian friend. We would love prayers that our congregation would take up this opportunity and be confident bringing a friend along. We also have a number of people leading in their sports for the first time and so we would appreciate prayers for them as they step out in faith to lead a group.
